Angela Kay Stevens (Angee), 32, a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Public Health, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 1. She was born in Decatur, Alabama, and graduated from Decatur High School before receiving a BS degree with Honors from Birmingham-Southern College in 2011. She received an MPH in 2012 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2019 from Texas Tech University. While at TTU, Angee met her husband Ryan Blake.
Angee and Ryan moved to Rhode Island in 2019 for her residency in the Clinical Psychology Training Consortium in Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School. She then began a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center of Alcohol and Addiction Studies.
Angee’s research focused on the interplay of impulsivity, impaired control, and problematic substance use in young adults. She published thirty-six peer reviewed articles during her short career and received multiple awards, including a 2021 Award for Outstanding Paper by an Early Career Investigator from the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research. Angee also received the 2021 Sharon Chauncey Fellow Award, which honors the most generous and collegial postdoctoral fellow as recognized by their peers.
Described by her colleagues as exceptionally generous, witty, and humble, Angee was highly respected by her peers and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
